In 1983 three wild dormice were trapped in Wiltshire and a captive breeding colony was established, 1992 the first re-introduction of captive bred dormice into Hertfordshire, took place and led to setting up of the Common Dormouse Captive Breeders Group, CDCBG, in 1995, and the return of dormice into many counties throughout England organised by English Nature. From 2000 the Peoples’ Trust for Endangered Species, PTES led the re-introductions, and the project flew to another level. To date, (2014) 19 re-introductions of dormice have been done throughout England, involving hundreds of enthusiastic naturalists and volunteers, members of CDCBG, Paignton Zoo, London Zoo and owners of woods and volunteers monitoring the woods, throughout the countryside of England. Hopefully the future of the not so common, Common Dormouse is in safe hands and on the way back from the brink of extinction. We are all guests on this planet and the human race has destroyed many species and caused many imbalances in nature. The lead up is tales of boarding school, where stark conditions prevailed, stowing away on a ferry to sunbath in Jersey and life on, Robert Brother’s and Hoffman’s Circus
