A poem carries a concrete message to the reader, a message, may be, as in this book, on humans and society. The message carried in the poems constituting this book depicts the thoughts and even feelings of men and women in the African continent sometime in far and near past, for instance the plight of black men and women in Africa and elsewhere in both pre-independent and post independent Africa. They also echo the malaise of Africa, traced to the roots. The dislocation of Africa’s equilibrium since the time of slave trade, to the colonial era, the neocolonial era as well as the present state of Africa. Mouthpiece does not only paint a bleak future of Africa, it also includes optimistic thoughts and stances that encourages the readers to reflect on their lives, thus bringing about positive changes for the people in Africa.
