The geographical background of these stories is drawn from the entire parts of Botswana, of which I have had personal experience – that is inevitable – but I want to make it absolutely clear that no inhabitant, past or present, of that particular parts appear in these short stories – except where previous speeches of great leaders may have been used in verbatim, but names used at the end as a remembrance of intelligent messages from elderly statesmen and women. The people and locations used are similarly, imaginary. That such types exist, indeed are prevalent in Botswana, - is, of course, true – otherwise I should not have written the stories. But the people in this stories are not modelled on real people, and if it should happen that a description of a character seems to fit a real person, that would be purely accidental and unintentional consequence of writing a work of fiction that is intended to picture and typify a segment of life in Botswana. No particular living persons were in my mind when I wrote this book.
